Romania’s presidency accused the government of using budget planning as a political instrument against the institutions that refuse to comply with the senior ruling party’s policies. The government cut the presidency's budget for this year in its latest budget revision, along with those of the intelligence service and several ministries controlled by the junior ruling party, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats Alde.
Five parties nominated ex-comedian Marjan Sarec as the next Slovenian prime minister. The parliament is due to vote on the nomination on August 17, but it’s still unclear whether Sarec’s planned majority government can rely on the support it needs from leftwing Levica.
Global mining group Rio Tinto will build a jadarite processing facility in Serbia by 2023, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced. Jadarit is a new mineral discovered in Serbia in 2004 by the geologists of Rio Sava, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto in Serbia, and is believed to be the only place in the world where such deposits can be found.
Turkey’s tourism comeback driven by heavy discounting is being felt by resorts in Spain, according to a study by the Tourism Intelligence unit of data specialist Mabrian Technologies. Hotels in Spain are having to compete with offers from places like three-star resorts on Turkey’s Mediterranean and Aegean coasts that are up to 73% cheaper than the Balearic Islands
41.5% of Macedonians plan to vote yes to
the name deal with Greece in the country’s September referendum, a poll showed. The results look good for the deal Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has staked his political career on, as
only 35.1% plan to vote no, and at an expected 66.4% turnout will pass the 50% mark required for the vote to be valid.

The 46MW Mozura wind park in Montenegro will start operations by the end of September after China’s Shanghai Electric Power Company has completed the installation of 23 turbines. This is the second wind park project to be developed in the tiny Adriatic country.
Romania’s central bank maintained
