Romanian online retailer eMag plans €150mn investments in technology
Romanian online retailer eMag plans to invest €150mn in technology in the coming five years, the company’s general manager, Iulian Stanciu, said, according to News.ro.
Last year, eMag Group had a turnover of RON4.77bn (€1.03bn), 17.5% up on the year, on the back of an increase in the number of sellers which use its online platform.
For next year, Stanciu estimated that the number of products sold through eMag’s marketplace will increase to 10mn from 5.7mn this year and 3.1mn in 2018. The number of sellers in eMag’s marketplace advanced to 16,350 this year from 10,030 in 2018.
“Our target is to reach 40,000 sellers in each country we are active,” Stanciu said.
In March this year, Hungary's two leading online electronics retailers Extreme Digital and the Hungarian subsidiary of eMAG announced their merger, creating one of the largest online retail networks in Central and Eastern Europe. The merger will pave the way for eMag to enter into five new regional markets where Extreme Digital is already present: Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Besides Romania and Hungary, eMag also operates in Bulgaria and Poland.
