Railcars​. The gondola fleet increased by 546 units in April to 566,979 cars. Adverse industry conditions reduced purchases by some 60% from the March level. The oil tanks fleet was flat at 178,957 cars.
Outlook. ​May trends were almost identical to those in April, which suggests to us that the impact of the Russian lockdown has become fully visible. While a number of cargos might see recovery with the reopening economy, we believe that the gondola segment will see little benefit, given fleet oversupply and absent sizable write offs in the coming years.
