Sheremetyevo International Airport is one of the ten best airports in the world in the in the category of airports serving 40-50 million passengers per year, according to the World’s Best Airports by Passenger Numbers 2020 ranking. The rating is based on a survey of passengers by the Skytrax international agency as part of the performance assessment of the World Airport Awards 2020. The World Airport Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the airport industry. Airports are selected for the award based on a poll of passengers by the reputable international agency Skytrax. The study for the 2020 awards was conducted over a 6-month period at 550 airports around the world.
Rostec-owned Red Wings Airlines will purchase up to 76 Russian-made jets within four years after the meeting on May 13. It is likely that Red Wings is now the new candidate to serve as the basis for the ‘united far eastern carrier’ – the role Aurora was created for but failed to achieve. “The option with Aurora serving as the base for the new airline had indeed been discussed. As far as I know, according to the latest information, Red Wings has been selected for the project. What the reasons behind this decision are, I can’t comment,” an official from the administration of the Sukhalin region, who opted not to be named, explained to Russian Aviation Insider.
Pobeda is to get all 30 of its aircraft back into the skies by August, the company has announced, with 60% of routes to exclude Moscow and 20% of them being unique (no other airlines on these routes). The low-coster started its first flights yesterday, ending two months of complete grounding. We see the target on non-Moscow routes as being logical in the short term, since regions are easing restrictions faster than the capital and so might provide a more rapid recovery in traffic. For example, as can be seen from our http://www.traffic-monitor.info/, the current load factor at Pulkovo and Sochi airports is 20-30% vs. the 15-20% average at Moscow airports. However, there are medium-term risks: regional and newly introduced routes could bring lower traffic than from the Moscow hub (to be reopened in July-August). Noting this risk, VTBC reiterate its 12-month TP for Aeroflot of RUB110 ( ETR +34%) and Buy recommendation.
Lowcoster Pobeda, the fastest growing subsidiary of Russia's national air carrier Aeroflot, is seeing a 90% load factor for its flights, which resumed on May 31 after two months of all the company's jets being grounded, Vedomosti d aily reported on June 4 citing analysts of VTB Capital (VTBC) and Gazprombank. In April the load factor for the remaining domestic flights dropped to 39%. In 2019 the average load factor for Russian carriers was 84%, for Pobeda 94%. The load factor of the Aeroflot flagship carrier of the group is at about 50%. High demand for Pobeda's flights is attributed to aggressive pricing. As reported by bne IntelliNews, the return of the lowcoster and re-routing of all flights for domestic destinations has sharply reduced the ticket prices for competing carriers.
United Aviation Corporation (UAC or OAK) will be one of the largest recipients of the RUB450bn state programme to support the military-industrial complex, with additional RUB250bn ($3.7bn) of capital injections, Vedomosti daily reported citing unnamed federal officials and sources close to the company. As reported by bne IntelliNews, after spending $1.5bn on supporting building the domestic Sukhoi Super Jet 100 (produced by Sukhoi, part of OAK), the government could spend another $2bn on supporting demand for the SSJ100, which sold close to zero jets in 2019.
