Turkey signs deal for construction of world’s longest suspension bridge
Indian Railways exploring rail connection to Iran
Best bid for Belgrade airport to be revealed by end-August, minister says
A Turkish-South Korean consortium inked a deal on March 16 to build the world's longest suspension bridge over the Dardanelles Strait, according to aa.com.tr. The consortium, made up of South Korea’s Daelim, SK E&C, and Turkish Yapi Limak, won the tender in January.
The project, worth around $3bn, involves building a 3.7km suspen- sion bridge and an access road connecting Lapseki and Gallipoli.
The construction of the "Canakkale 1915" bridge is expected to begin in March this year, with the crossing over the Dardanelles Strait scheduled to open in 2023. The project is to be carried out as a build-operate-transfer scheme.
Indian Railways is exploring connecting its rail system to Iran’s through a joint agreement with Pakistan and Afghanistan, accord- ing to a report in First Post paper on March 15.
The announcement by the state-owned Indian company comes as Iran recently opened its new railway connection with Azerbaijan, which will continue further north to Russia as part of the North- South railway plan connecting the Persian Gulf to Russia.
The best bid for a 25-year concession to operate Serbia’s larg- est airport should be revealed by the end of August, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic an- nounced on March 15, Tanjug reported.
The tender for the Aerodrom Nikola Tesla (ANT) concession at- tracted 27 companies, including four firms each from China and France, three each from Turkey and Russia, and others from coun- tries including Greece, Germany, India and Japan. State controlled ANT’s share price has been rising since March 13 when the number of bidders was announced.
