NEWS IN BRIEF
AfrOil
The company is pleased to announce receipt of EIA approval from the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment to build and operate a 120-km, 20-inch (508-mm) natural gas pipeline connecting the proposed gas treat- ment plant and compression station (CPF) to the Gazoduc Maghreb Europe pipeline (GME). The TGEP will cross the Matarka Commune (prov- ince of Figuig) and Merija Commune (province of Jerada) to reach the delivery point of the GME.
The company advises that the EIA process related to CPF is progressing well. The ini- tial meeting of the National Committee from the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment to review the CPF EIA was held on October 10, 2019. The second meeting of National Committee to further consider and, if agreed, to approve CPF EIA is scheduled on January 28, 2020.
The company advises that ongoing discus- sions with the representatives of the Morocco’s Ministry of Interior to obtain rights through a long-term lease agreement for a 50-metre wide corridor along the entire 120-km length of the TGEP are progressing to plan.
The company confirms that GSA negotia- tions continue and, as indicated in the announce- ment made on January 2, 2020, is now pleased to announce signature of the amendment to the binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Morocco’s Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable, the state power company of Morocco, in order to extend the period for nego- tiations of the final GSA to March 31.
The company continues to work on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) funding solution for the infrastructure at the Tendrara concession in parallel with progressing the pre- viously announced proposed sale of a substan- tial stake in the company’s Eastern Morocco Portfolio.
The company believes that the developments cited above are important milestones in the process of developing and commercialising the Tendara concession and, as the company pro- gresses towards the Final Investment Decision
(when binding development capital commit- ments are to be made), for the concession.
Further announcements with respect to matters above will be made in due course, as appropriate.

Maersk Drilling selected to drill at record water depth in Angola-Namibia campaign
Based on the conditional letter of award previ- ously announced in connection with Maersk Drilling’s Q3-2019 Trading Statement, Maersk Drilling has been awarded contracts for a three- well exploration drilling project by Total E&P Angola Block 32, Block 48 and Total E and P Namibia for the seventh-generation drillship Maersk Voyager.
Maersk Voyager will be employed offshore Angola and Namibia for a campaign that includes the deepest water depth ever drilled offshore. The project includes two wells offshore Angola in Blocks 32 and 48, plus one well off- shore Namibia. The campaign is expected to commence in January 2020, with an estimated duration of 240 days. The total value of the firm contracts is approximately $46.3mn, including a mobilisation fee. The contracts include two addi- tional one-well options.
The well in Angola’s Block 48 will be drilled at a new world record water depth of 3,628 metres. The current world record is 3,400 metres, set by Maersk Voyager’s sister drillship Maersk Ven- turer when it drilled the Raya-1 well for Total offshore Uruguay in 2016.
To support the campaign in Angola and Namibia, Maersk Drilling will be working with local partners to power successful outcomes and
strengthen the development of the local oil and gas industry to the benefit of all parties involved. “We are thrilled to once again push beyond existing boundaries in collaboration with Total, drawing upon our mutual experience from the exciting deepwater exploration projects we have collaborated on over the years. In addition, it’s great to be heading back to Angola where we performed a series of successful operations from 2012 to 2016, and to do so in a multi-country campaign which will showcase our ability to quickly and smoothly move operations from one jurisdiction to another,” said COO Morten
Kelstrup of Maersk Drilling.
Maersk Voyager is a high-spec ultra-deep-
water drillship that was delivered in 2014. It has recently performed its scheduled Special Periodic Survey in Walvis Bay, Namibia, after completing campaigns in Ghana and Equatorial Guinea in 2019.
