Petronas completes farmout of offshore Suriname Block 52 to ExxonMobil
Petronas has completed the farm-down of 50% of its 100% participating interest in Block 52, off- shore Suriname, to ExxonMobil.
Block 52 is located north of the coast of Para- maribo, Suriname’s capital city, and is situated in the prospective Suriname-Guyana basin where several major hydrocarbon discoveries were made recently. Block 52 covers an area of 4,749 square km with water depths ranging from 50 to 1,100 metres.
Subsequent to the farm-down, Petronas’ sub- sidiary Petronas Suriname Exploration & Pro- duction (PSEPBV) as the operator of Block 52 holds 50% equity, while ExxonMobil holds the remaining 50%.
Petronas’ Vice President of Exploration Emeliana Rice-Oxley said: “Our upcoming exploration activities for Block 52 will involve the drilling of a well in Q3-2020, in addition to acquiring new 3D seismic data utilising the latest technology, covering the whole block to further evaluate the block’s upside potential. We look forward to this partnership with ExxonMobil and are determined to continue with the success storyonhydrocarbondiscoveriesinthebasin.”
In 2016, PSEPBV drilled the Roselle-1 well in Block 52, which provided crucial subsurface information and data on the petroleum system of the area. Subsequent detailed analysis carried out by PSEPBV indicated that Block 52 contains multiple geological play types and is within the favourable fairway for hydrocarbon genera- tion and accumulation. The recent oil discov- eries in an adjacent block further support this assessment.
In addition to Block 52, PSEPBV also holds a 100% participating interest and operatorship for Block 48, and a 30% non-operated participating interest in Block 53.

Second DeNovo contract win for Aquaterra Energy
Aquaterra Energy, a leader in global offshore engineering solutions, has been awarded the FEED (Front End Engineering and Design) con- tract by DeNovo Energy for a second Sea Swift
platform to be located in the Zandolie field, off of the west coast of Trinidad and Tobago.
The award follows on from Aquaterra Ener- gy’s successful design, build and installation of its Sea Swift conductor supported platform (CSP) for DeNovo Energy’s first west-coast field development, Iguana, in 2018. That platform was designed and delivered in 10 months. Since then, the Iguana structure has safely produced an aver- age of 80 mcf of natural gas – recording uptime of 100% in 2020 so far.
The latest project will see Aquaterra Energy apply modifications to the existing Iguana plat- form, conduct a review of the pipeline infra- structure and design a new single well CSP in 20-metre water depth destined for Zando- lie. This platform is expected to be lighter and smaller than the Iguana structure and will be
engineered for drilling and installation via a jack-up rig. Together, these measures will signif- icantly reduce project costs.
Addressing the scope of the project, Stew- art Maxwell, Technical Director at Aquaterra Energy stated: “Similar to the Iguana platform, we will seek to provide a design and develop- ment solution that will enable DeNovo Energy to maximise fabrication opportunities in-country. We’re thrilled to be partnering with DeNovo on this FEED for a second Sea Swift CSP solution.”
“The company is proud to have created multi- ple efficiencies across the DeNovo Iguana opera- tions through intelligent engineering.
“We are ready to take that experience and apply it to the Zandolie project to deliver a lighter, smaller platform designed with the envi- ronment in mind,” says Maxwell.
