Russia still top 10 investment destination in Ernst & Young rating

Russia remained one of the 10 most popular destinations for foreign investment in Europe in 2018, according to a new rating by Ernst & Young.
Russia was ranked ninth as the most attractive investment destination in Europe, despite the decline of foreign investment projects from 238 in 2017 to 211 in 2018. Russia was also picked as one of the top three investment destinations by 11% of respondents.
From the wider Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, both Poland and Turkey were ranked higher than Russia, in sixth and seventh places respectively. Poland saw a 38% hike in investment projects, and the number in Turkey increased by 14% despite the economic turmoil in the country.
Elsewhere in CEE number of investment pro- jects fell in Romania and Hungary (both down 13%) and the Czech Republic (down 51%) in 2018 compared to 2017. On the other hand, an increase in investment projects was reported in Serbia, Lithuania and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The industry breakdown places industry
and manufacturing as the most attractive in- dustry in Russia for foreign investment, but the number of projects in the segment fell by 29% to 127. In sales and marketing the number of projects doubled to 41.
Notably, the investment from the US increased by 74% to 33 projects, accounting for 16% of all foreign investment projects in Russia. German investment projects followed (down by
