Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported that Ukraine exported 43.8mn tonnes of grain the 2016/2017 marketing year. In the current season, the largest buyers of Ukrainian grain were Egypt ($724mn, with a share of 11.4%), China ($594mn, 9.3%), Spain ($459mn, 7.2%), Indonesia ($375mn, 5.9%) and the Netherlands ($348mn, 5.5%), Interfax news agency reported on July 20. Ukraine exported 17.8mn tonnes of maize worth $2.86bn (China's share was 16.4%, Egypt accounted for 13.6%, and the Netherlands for 12.2%). Exports of wheat totalled 17.2mn tonnes worth $2.83bn (Indonesia with 13.3%, Egypt with 11.8%, and Bangladesh with 8.7%); while exports of barley stood at 4.3mn tonnes worth $0.64bn (Saudi Arabia with 41.2%, China with 19.3%, and Libya with 6.6%).
9.1.9 Utilities sector news
Electricity production up, coal production down . In June 2018, Ukraine produced 11.655bn kWh of electricity, which is 2.2% more than in June 2017, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine. 56% of the total volume was generated by Energoatom," 34% - by thermal generation, 7% - HPP, and 3% - other sources. The ministry noted a decrease in coal production of 3.5% in June 2018 y/y. State owned mines reduced production by 15.3%, and private enterprises - by 1.7%.
Electricity exports up. In January-June 2018 Ukraine exported electricity worth $160.663mn , including $23.485mn in June alone. In monetary terms this was an increase of 17.8% y/y. Hungary bought electricity worth $97.4mn, Poland $39mn, Moldova $20.5mn, other countries $3.8mn, Ukraine’s State Fiscal Service reports. During the same period, Ukraine imported electricity worth $0.8mn, from the Russian Federation – $0.7&mn, Belarus – $0.04mn, and Moldova - $0.002mn. Ukraine plans to increase exports of electricity to the EU and Moldova by 13.3% to 5.855bn kWh this year.
Massive wind farm on the Sea of Azov , General Electric has signed a contract with DTEK to supply high-voltage equipment for a 150 kV central power distribution station and two 150/35/10 kV substations. Earlier, DTEK contracted GE Renewable Energy to supply 26 wind turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each for the first stage of the Prymorska wind farm. The turbines are to be delivered and set up by the end of this year. The first stage is to start generating power next spring.
