Sonatrach signs MoU with Lukoil
Sonatrach and Lukoil have signed a memoran- dum of understanding (MoU) to initiate discus- sions in order to identify the possibilities for the two parties to invest jointly in exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Algeria, fol- lowing the promulgation of the new Algerian Hydrocarbons Law.
The memorandum of understanding also covers the examination of international explo- ration and production opportunities. Sonatrach, May 11 2020

Libya’s NOC to produce
LPG at Sharara oilfield
for local consumption
National Oil Corporation’s subsidiaries and a Repsol-led consortium have reached the final stages of an ambitious study to recover LPG contained in flare gas from the Sharara oilfield. This cooking gas will then be made available to residents in southern Libya at its legal price.
Capturing flare gas and putting it to good use will reduce the levels of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere at the Sharara oil field and reduce waste.
“Of course, there are significant environ- mental advantages for this project,” said NOC
chairman Mustafa Sanalla. “But just as impor- tantly, it will provide affordable cooking gas for citizens in the south who have been suffering since the start of this conflict. The situation in the south is unacceptable. The ongoing fighting and unrest are preventing us from sending reg- ular convoys of gas from depots in the north, so we have to look for a more viable solution that benefits people and the environment.”
Talks with providers of the technology have reached the final stages. The new technology will allow the separation of LPG from flare gas in a cost-effective way. The project is estimated to take about 18 months to complete.

PGS release first data from MC3D Ghana Tano Basin
Fast-track 3D GeoStreamer data from the latest PGS MultiClient seismic survey in Ghana reveal Cretaceous targets and Afina-1X reservoir ana- logs in the Tano Basin.
The 2019 GeoStreamer survey targets the Ghana Tano Basin, a transform margin explora- tion hot spot, providing the first-ever MultiCli- ent 3D broadband data offshore Ghana.
The Upper Cretaceous play is the focus in the Tano Basin with deep marine stacked turbidite channel and fan complexes providing excellent reservoir potential in the Cenomanian, Turo- nian, and Campanian. GeoStreamer data with FWI velocity model building and AVO com- pliant prestack data will allow explorers to sig- nificantly derisk deepwater exploration in this
prolific basin.
“The survey took an integrated approach to
acquisition and imaging of the Upper Cretaceous play, combining the benefits of GeoStreamer broadband technology and the latest imaging workflows. Down-dip reservoir analogs of the 2019 Afina-1X discovery are well imaged in the data,” says Joshua May, New Ventures Manager for Africa at PGS.

WesternGeco completes
seismic survey offshore
Egypt for Neptune Energy
Neptune Energy has announced the successful completion of an ocean bottom nodes (OBN) multiclient survey in the North West El Amal block, offshore Egypt, delivering promising results for further analysis.
The project, prefunded by Neptune, was carried out by WesternGeco, the seismic and geophysical data solutions division of Schlum- berger, under a contract with the Egyptian Gen- eral Petroleum Corp. (EGPC), sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry for Petroleum and Mineral Resources. WesternGeco acquired the survey using third-party vessels.
The survey employed innovative OBN tech- nology to overcome the challenge of acquiring improved imaging in the complex salt geome- tries of the Gulf of Suez. It was the first ever OBN seismic survey to be conducted in Egypt and the most detailed survey of the block since the first acquisition in 1988, providing an in-depth data set for processing, image analysis, and planning for potential exploratory wells in the future.
The North West El Amal offshore concession covers 365 square km and is located in the cen- tral part of the Gulf of Suez, approximately 42 km south of Ras Gharib and 105 km north of Hurghada. Neptune was awarded the explora- tion licence in February last year, including the acquisition of 100 square km of 3D seismic data.
Egypt Managing Director, Gamal Kassem said: “Egypt is important for Neptune and we are pleased to build on our strong relationships with the Ministry of Petroleum and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. The safe and successful completion of the seismic acquisition is an important achievement and is testament to the careful planning and professional execution by Neptune, EGPC and WesternGeco.”
The project involved placing large numbers of autonomous sensors on the seabed to acquire seismic data, then retrieving them for analysis. The process acquires more detailed data than standard technologies and is less sensitive to weather conditions which can impact traditional seismic survey vessels.
