The projected energy demand expansion calls for making matching investments in the energy sector, he said adding at $85bn India recorded the highest growth of foreign energy investments anywhere in the world.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year declared that “energy justice” is a top priority for India.
DEMAND
TEPCO to receive power
from other utilities to
handle high demand
TEPCO said it had received electricity from other utilities on September 10 as demand for power jumped amid scorching weather.
TEPCO officials say the firm’s supply was expected to become low, as power usage for air conditioners surged more sharply than expected. Temperatures were unseasonably high in Tokyo and surrounding areas on Tuesday.
They also say the utility’s supply capacity has fallen as some of its thermal power plants were damaged by Typhoon Faxai, which hit the areas on September 9.
The officials say the firm asked for up to 700MW from other utilities between 4 and 5 pm to meet peak-time demand.

Power Ledger trials
blockchain energy trading
in rural Australia
Australian blockchain firm Power Ledger has launched a trial of its blockchain-based power management technology in rural areas of Western Australia.
The project will allow commercial buildings to trade excess solar power between each other.
Power Ledger will run this project in collaboration with Innovations Central Midlands WA, BSC Solar, Sonnen and CleanTech Energy.
Starting with a trial at commercial sites in the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu and Moora, the company plans to expand its reach to other regional shires in Western Australia.
“The current energy system relies on large- scale power stations pushing energy to some consumers located hundreds of kilometers away. This requires an even further energy push when trying to reach regional areas
such as Wongan Hills or Moora,” said David Martin, managing director and co-founder of Power Ledger.
In the small administrative system of these Shires, which are generally close-knit communities, Power Ledger’s platform can facilitate peer-to-peer power trading. There are a variety of participants, including offices, a swimming pool, and local farmers. “Sustainability and energy efficiency
is vitally important in rural areas where communities truly understand the need to be self-sufficient. This allows us to use the grid more efficiently and reduce the cost of energy for everyone — this is a major upside to our residents,” said Stuart Taylor, Shire of Wongan-Ballidu CEO.
GAS-FIRED GENERATION
Novatek signed MoU with H-Energy
Today, during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Novatek and H-Energy Global, India, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU envisages co-operation in LNG supplies to India on a long-term basis, joint investment in future LNG terminals of H-Energy and LNG projects of Novatek, as
well as establishing a joint venture to market LNG and natural gas from Novatek’s portfolio to end-customers in India, Bangladesh and other markets.
“India is one of the largest and fastest growing LNG markets, and will be one of
the main sources of future growth in global demand for natural gas,” noted Novatek’s Chairman of the Management Board
Leonid Mikhelson. “The Memorandum of Understanding is an important step towards entering the end customer market in India, which is of great interest to Novatek taking into account our strategic plans to implement new LNG projects and significantly increase our LNG production volumes.”
Novatek signs memorandum of understanding with Petronet LNG
Today, during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Novatek and Petronet LNG, India, signed a memorandum of understanding (the MoU) on future natural gas co-operation.
The MoU envisages delivering LNG supplies from Novatek’s portfolio to the Indian market, including natural gas supplies for power generation, as well as investment
by Petronet LNG in Novatek’s future LNG projects and the joint marketing of LNG as motor fuel in India, including joint investment in developing a network of filling stations and a fleet of LNG-fuelled trucks.
“India’s rapid economic growth requires increasing demand for all sources of energy and, primarily, for natural gas as the most environmentally friendly type of fuel. Moreover, the conversion of modal transport to LNG enables India to significantly reduce carbon emissions, thereby contributing to India’s commitment toward reducing its impact on climate change,” noted Leonid Mikhelson, NOVATEK’s Chairman of
the Management Board. “Our low-cost production from future Arctic LNG projects ensures competitively priced LNG supplies
to most regions of the world, and we are confident that our mutually beneficially cooperation with Petronet LNG will promote the supply of affordable clean burning natural gas to the Indian market.”
