 4.4.2​ Income dynamics
        The hunger threshold (minimum food expenditure for a four-person family) stood at TRY2,438 in May (TRY2,163 in December), according to a monthly survey​ by the yellow labour union Turk-Is.
The monthly net minimum wage stands at 2,324 for 2020. Around 40% of Turkey’s labour force earns a minimum wage.
Economy once more ‘biggest difficulty’​. According to a new ​survey​ by Ipsos, the economy is once more seen as the biggest difficulty by Turks. It’s the first time that this has been the case since Turkey’s COVID-19 outbreak occurred in March.
A total of 43% of survey respondents saw the economy as the biggest problem, while 39% said the pandemic was the greatest difficulty.
The survey also found that 33% of respondents were employed by workplaces that have temporarily ceased operations. The reopening of the economy amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak was seen by 48% of respondents as the wrong move, while 41% saw it as correct.
A total of 57% of survey participants said they were still anxious about their job.
   4.4.3​ Retail sector dynamics
   Retail sales fell by 21.0% m/m and 19.3% y/y in April.
However, data will be ​revised​: Value Added Tax (VAT) Declarations are used as the data source in the calculation of Retail Sales Indices. With the General Communique on Tax Procedure Law No. 518, dated 24 March 2020; The deadlines for submission of March, April and May 2020 VAT Declarations have been extended until the end of Monday, July 27, 2020, and all the VAT Declarations of April 2020 have not been submitted by the relevant parties. For this reason, Retail Sales Indices for April 2020 were calculated using alternative data sources such as e-invoice and e-archive invoice, card payment data in addition to VAT declarations in line with international norms and methodologies. After the VAT Declaration data are provided, the published indexes will be revised if necessary.
