Over ten countries have placed a temporarily ban Ukrainian poultry products due to the spread of bird flu, MHP says. They include Moldova, China, Japan, Korea, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iraq, the Philippines, Morocco, Tunisia, Singapore, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. “Ukraine has introduced an active surveillance program that should show the absence of infection and restore the status of a prosperous country in terms of product safety. The enterprises of the MHP group fully control the quality of products. We hope that European institutions and our partner countries will soon reconsider their decision in favour of Ukraine,” the company said.

By lowering duties on agricultural imports from Ukraine, the UK government can deliver voters a post-Brexit win, Bate Toms, chairman of the British Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, writes in a letter to the Financial Times. “The EU treaty restricts EU, and thus still UK, access to Ukrainian food, limited price competition with German, French and other EU farmers,” Toms writes. “Ukraine is the principal available food resource to lower UK food costs and addresses Britain’s future farm needs.”
To reverse a more recent setback, Ukrainian trade officials are negotiating with the EU to end a temporary ban on Ukrainian poultry exports to the EU. The ban stemmed from the discovery on January 18 of chicken killed by avian influenza. The dead bird\ was not on an MHP farm. It is believed to have been infected by a wild bird.
Ukraine’s coking coal imports rose 21% m/m to 808 kt in December,
according to Concorde Capital's analysis of a February 3 report by Interfax-Ukraine, which cited Ukrkoks, an industry association. In 2019, coking coal imports dropped 12.3% y/y to 10.43mmt, according to our analysis of the data. By country of origin, imports from Russia dropped 24.2% to 5.02mmt, imports from the US slid 6.2% to 4.57mmt, imports from Kazakhstan jumped 88.5% to 0.75mmt, and imports from Czech Republic increased almost 9 times to 0.09mmt. Supplies of domestic coking coal to Ukrainian coke plants amounted to 3.5mmt in 2019, a 30.3% y/y increase, according to Ukrkoks.
Ukraine, the world’s top exporter of sunflower oil, increased its seaborne exports of the commodity by around 61% so far in the 2019/20 season, preliminary data from the APK-Inform consultancy showed on Monday. Seaport exports of sunflower oil totalled 2.225mn tonnes so far in the 2019/20 season, which runs from August to September, up from 1.382mn tonnes in the same period the previous season, according to the consultancy.
Ukrainian grain exports from sea ports rose to 1.17mn tonnes in the week of February 8-14 from 755,000 tonnes a week earlier, preliminary data from APK-Inform consultancy showed on Monday. Wheat exports rose to 205,000 tonnes from 134,000 tonnes, while corn shipments rose to 888,000 tonnes from 607,000 tonnes, the consultancy said. Most of Ukraine’s grain exports last week headed to Egypt, Netherlands and Libya.
