Used car imports tripled last year, to 448,400, reports Ukravtoprom, the auto industry association. Imports of new cars increased by 28%, to 95,600. Part of the increase of used car imports was due to last year’s tax amnesty on unregistered used cars already circulating in Ukraine. Last year, Ukrainians spent $3.6bn on imported cars, almost double the $2bn spent in 2018.
The government is talking with large investors interested in manufacturing electric cars in Ukraine, reports Interfax-Ukraine. “An investor who intends to build an electric car factory and create jobs is here. Ukrainian electric cars are arriving. We need to eliminate pro-import conditions such as zero excise tax and zero VAT and stimulate a national producer,” said Deputy Energy Minister Oleksiy Riabchyn.

As discount airlines change Ukrainian travel habits, the number of Ukrainians flying to Poland has more than tripled in three years, reports Europe Without Barriers, a Kyiv-based NGO. Last year, 700,000 Ukrainians flew to Poland, up from 204,000 in 2017. With four airlines flying between Kyiv’s two airports and Poland, it is now possible to fly from Kyiv to eight Polish cities.
Kyiv Boryspil was Europe’s fastest growing major airport last year, ACI Europe, the European airport trade association, reports from Brussels. Growing by 21.1%, Boryspil was the fastest growing airport with more than 10mn passengers of the 46 European area airports tracked by the association.
