He was initially asked to post bail of Georgian lari (GEL) 30,000 by Tbilisi City Court and told he must wear an electronic monitoring tag. However, the tag was publicly removed last November 1 during a protest rally on Rustaveli Avenue.
The prosecutor's office appealed to the city court to change the measure of restraint and apply a bail of GEL100,000. The court partially granted the agency's motion, introducing a GEL70,000 bail. Melia reportedly refused to post it.
The pre-trial detention of Melia was ordered after the suspension of his immunity as an MP—a position he refused to take as part of the opposition parties’ boycotting of parliament. Melia has also been forbidden from crossing the Georgian border without prior notification and the consent of the prosecution.
 2.4 Georgia gradually lifting pandemic restrictions but vaccinations yet to start
    Georgia’s coordinating council set up to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at its February 24 meeting decided to lift a number of pandemic restrictions from March 1.
In the meantime, efforts to secure a supply of coronavirus vaccines for the South Caucasus country are advancing slowly.
Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia said that it was expected that Georgia will receive a first batch of 29,250 Pfizer vaccine doses in the first two weeks of March.
Hotels in Georgian mountain resorts, meanwhile, are to open from February 25 in full compliance with existing epidemiological standards and regulations. Cable transport at the resorts will open from March 8.
Intercity transport in Georgia will be relaunched from February 25.
Restaurants will resume indoors service except on weekends in Batumi from March 1, and in the rest of Georgia from March 8. However, the curfew from 9pm to 5am will remain in force.
Restaurants serving indoors will have to strictly follow established recommendations and standards, which will be strictly controlled by relevant agencies.
Conferences and training courses will entitled to resume from March 1. Gyms will resume operations from March 15 in accordance with regulations.
Preschools, both public and private, will be operational from March 1, with mandatory testing of 20% of staff once every two weeks.
High schools and vocational schools will be able to resume practical and laboratory activities from March 1, and to restore the educational provision in auditoriums from March 15.
Museums and libraries will resume operations from March 1.
Theatres, sports clubs and professional ensembles will be able to resume rehearsals from March 15, and fully resume activities (performances, sports
