Russia accuses Facebook of spreading fake information
Russia has questions for Facebook with regard to the company's failure to block fake accounts of the country's foreign embassies, foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on May 4. "Perpetrators use Facebook to spread fabricated news, misinfor- mation, spam and harmful materials through fake accounts," TASS quoted Zakharova as saying. Russia constantly faces "perverted information attacks" on social media, she added.
The comments come in a period of heightened attention by the Russia authorities to the operations of foreign internet and tech companies and frequent charges that they violate Russian law.
"Despite our requests, Facebook has failed to block access to fake accounts of the Russian Federation's embassies in the Czech Republic and Slovakia," the spokesperson said. "By its inactivity, Facebook encourages the spread of misinformation."

Turkcell's main shareholders - Turkish conglomerate Cukurova Holding, Russia’s Alfa Group and TeliaSonera - have been engaged in a long-running legal dispute over control of the company. Rus- sian billionaire Mikhail Fridman’s Alfa Telecom and Turkish billion- aire Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, owner of Cukurova Holding, have been locked in a battle that has prevented Turkcell shareholders from convening a shareholders' general meeting to discuss divi- dend distribution for years.
