Ukraine, or even leave the country, which looks logical taking into account the political risks that this group faces in Ukraine now,” Alexander Paraschiy of Concorde Capital said in a note. “Once the acquisition is completed, DTEK Group will boost its total share in Ukraine’s power distribution to about 46% from 36% currently. The deal will have no positive impact on DTEK Energy (which officially divested all its power DisCos in late 2018) and its Eurobonds, and may even have a negative impact, as DTEK Oil&Gas is among the biggest debtors of DTEK Energy,” Paraschiy added.
Ukrhydroenerho, the company that administers the nation’s largest power plants , produced 10.5% of the nation’s electricity in 2018. Energoatom, the state company that operates Ukraine’s four nuclear power stations, produced 53% of the nation’s electricity.
Donbasenergo to construct new power unit for $0.68bn . Chinese company Dongfang Electric International Corporation is the winner of a tender to construct a 660 MW power unit for power generator Donbasenergo (DOEN UK), the nashigroshi.org news site reported on Dec. 25. The winner's bid was UAH19.09bn (about $680mn) as its total cost of constructing the power unit. The new unit, to be built at the location of the demolished Unit #6 of the Slovianska Power Plant, will consist of two parts producing 330 MW each, equipped with boilers that will burn coal under CFB technology. The first part of the power unit will be commissioned in July 2022, the second one in July 2023. The tender winner has committed to attracting financing for at least 85% of the project’s costs for at least 15 years.
Ukrenergo also is moving to the electronic tender system ProZorro to sell excess power . The national power company earned $6mn last year by selling excess inventory. “Everything that was written off and accumulated in electric power systems for years -- from car tires and used transformer oil to large-sized scrap metal, equipment and old cars -- was put up for sale,” the company reports. On the purchasing side, Ukrenergo says it saved 5% -- or $7mn -- on 2,400 ProZorro tenders for a total of $143mn purchases last year.

The EBRD has arranged a €150mn syndicated loan for the construction of the biggest windfarm in Ukraine , with a capacity of 250MW in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, the development bank said in a press release on January 23. The loan will be extended to the local developer SyvashEnergoProm LLC, co-owned by renewable energy groups Total Eren of France and NBT of Norway, for the construction of the initial 133 MW phase. The farm is expected to begin power generation by the end of 2019, the EBRD said. Once the project is fully commissioned, it is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 470,000 tonnes annually, and to produce over 850,000 MWh of renewable energy each year – enough to provide power to the Ukrainian municipality of Rivne, which has approximately 100,000 households.
Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has signed a deal to deliver 26 wind turbines to an EUR 140mn project wind power station that DTEK is building at Orlivka, on the north shore of the Sea of Azov, 65 km west of Berdyansk. Work starts next month on the 100 MW capacity project, aiming for completion late next year. Maksym Tymchenko, DTEK’s director general, said at the contract signing: “We continue to implement our plans to increase [our
