Polish economic sentiment improves again in April
Poland’s economic sentiment indicator (ESI) gained 1.1 points to 103.8 in April, data released by the European Commission showed on April 27. The result is in line with recent pick up in the real economy.
The reading sees the index improve for a second month in a row. All five sub-indices grew, pushing the headline to a 12 month peak.
The sub-index for retail trade gained the most, adding 2.2 points to 6.8. Consumer confidence gained 1.1 points to -5.9, while sentiment in industry grew 1 point to -8.8. Sentiment in services and construction improved 0.6 points to 3 and 0.7 points to -19.9.
The readings are in line with persistent optimism amongst Polish households thanks to the improving labour market and a strengthening performance by the industrial and retail sectors in recent months. The rise in confidence in construction – for the eighth consecutive month in March - offers more evidence that Poland’s long investment lull is easing, suggesting that EU fund absorption is finally picking up.
