4.5.2 Retail sector dynamics
Retail trade in Belarus increased by 10.1% to BYN17.2bn ($8.6bn)
year-on-year in January-May , according to the national statistics agency Belstat. Wholesale trade totalled increased by.3% y/y to BYN36.4bn in comparable prices in January-May, while one-day retail sales per capita made up BYN12 as against BYN10.3. Retail trade by trade companies accounted for 88.8% of the total and amounted to BYN15.3bn, up by 12.4% y/y in comparable prices. Trade by public catering facilities increased by 13.3% y/y to BYN955.2mn in comparable prices, BELTA news agency reported on June 18.
5.0 External Sector & Trade 5.1 External sector overview
In January-June 2018 Belarus' exports of goods and services totalled $20.2bn, up 19.4% versus the same period of 2017, BelTA learned from the latest statistics report released by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB). Belarus' foreign trade in goods and services totalled $40.1bn, up 20.7% from January-June 2017. Exports amounted to $20.2bn; imports grew by 22.1% to $19.9bn. The surplus of Belarus' foreign trade in goods and services reached $329.4mn. Belarus' trade in goods surged by 21.5% to $33.6bn. Exports of goods went up by 20.1% to $16.1bn, with imports up 22.8% to $17.5bn. The deficit of Belarus' trade in goods amounted to $1.38bn. In January-June 2017 the deficit stood at $833.6mn. Belarus' foreign trade in services totalled $66.57bn (up 16.9% as against the same period in 2017). Exports of services stood at $4.14bn (up 16.7%), with imports at $2.42bn (up 17.1%). The surplus of Belarus' foreign trade in services totalled $1.7bn (up 16.2% from January-June 2017).
