Danish furniture and household merchandise company JYSK is going to launch the XL format store in Kyiv's Retroville shopping and entertainment centre . Last week, the company also opened six stores in Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kherson, Odesa and Kyiv after their restyling. "We have a standard store format of 1,000 square meters of retail space and 200 square meters of warehouse space," Interfax quoted Executive Director of JYSK in Ukraine Yevhen Ivanitsa as saying on March 6. "We also have a city format of 500 square meters. It works in other markets, but we do not bring it in Ukraine yet, since we have enough space for the development of the main format." And we have XL format of about 2,000 square meters." Over the past two years, foreign retailers have expanded their presence in Ukraine, which has been badly hit by Russia's trade, economic and military aggression, as the nation's economy has stabilised. Specifically, Swedish furniture giant IKEA is going to open its first Ukrainian store in 2019. However, last week, Ukrainina media reported that IKEA may postpone its entry into the Ukrainian market due to construction delays of the Ocean Mall trade and entertainment centre in Kyiv. The company said it will enter the Ukrainian market “as soon as possible" and the delay was due to construction and obtaining permits for the Ocean Mall shopping centre, according to the company's statement. Meanwhile, JYSK is going to open the next store in Kamianets-Podilsky, as it continues to go to the regions. "We are opening the second store in Chernihiv, a store in the Dream Town shopping centre in May. It will be the 50th store in Ukraine," Ivanitsa said. "We also have a lease agreement with Kyiv shopping centres Retroville and Novus," Ivanitsa said. At the same time, he said that the share of online sales of JYSK in Ukraine, including the order online and pick up service, is more than 10%. However, the company intends to maintain the pace of opening stores in Ukraine and launch 12 new facilities this fiscal year, and in four fiscal years to increase the network to 100 stores. In 2017, Auchan Retail Ukraine, bought Ukrainian distributor Caravan , which operates nine Ukrainian-based hypermarkets with around 3,300 employees. Caravan operates nine hypermarkets and superstores and employs 3,300 people in Ukraine. The deal will enable Auchan to beef up its presence in Kiev and expand to four new cities: Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zhytomyr and Chernivtsi.
