Russia to spend $600mn on Northern Sea Route
Russia's federal budget will spend RUB40.6bn ($600mn) on the development of the Northern Sea Route in the next three years, Tass reported citing a note attached to the draft federal budget for 2019-2021.
In August, the major state contract for the construction of mega- icebreaker “Leader” that will keep the Northern Sea Route clear of ice around the year was awarded to the iconic Zvezda shipyard. It will be built in Russia's Far East region by the oil major Rosneft, its holding company Rosneftegaz, and Gazprombank.
In 2017, the cargo flow via the Northern Sea Route amounted to 10.7mn tonnes, and its capacity is planned to be expanded to 40mn tonnes by 2020 due to projects developed in the ports of Sabetta and Murmansk.
Deaths and injuries during the construction of Istanbul’s gigantic new airport raise serious questions about whether the project has been carried out in accordance with Turkey’s legally binding health and safety standards, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on September 21.
At least 38 workers have died in preventable work-related accidents and many more have been badly injured, the head of the construc- tion workers’ union Dev Yapi-Is was cited by HRW director Emma Sinclair-Webb as saying.
On September 14, thousands of airport construction workers pro- tested against poor working and living conditions on the site, with a long list of demands, including an end to alleged arbitrary dis- missals and late pay, and action to address workplace safety, and a bedbug infestation in workers’ sleeping quarters.
Serbia will invest €1.05bn in the construction of its part of a motor- way linking Belgrade to Bosnia & Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo, Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on September 21.
The government in Belgrade signed a framework agreement with Turkish civil engineering company Tasyapi for three road projects in Serbia, including two sections of the Belgrade-Sarajevo motorway. Under the agreement, contracts will be signed with Tasyapi for the overhaul of the Novi Pazar-Tutin road, worth €20mn, as well as for the construction of two sections of the motorway.
