NEWS IN BRIEF

of understanding (MoU) for a joint study to build a supply chain of renewable energy- derived ammonia (green ammonia), with
a major Australian energy company Origin Energy (Origin).
Origin is pursuing a number of green ammonia and hydrogen projects, including a green ammonia export project in Bell Bay, Tasmania, with first cargo targeted for 2026. MOL and Origin will complete a feasibility study on marine transportation of ammonia, demand in Japan and Asia and developing a supply chain by December of this year.
As a next-generation clean energy source that produces no carbon dioxide (CO2) during combustion, and as a carrier for transporting hydrogen, ammonia is in the spotlight as a promising energy resource that can help meet the 2050 target set by
the Japanese government for achieving a carbon-neutral society. In addition, green ammonia-produced using a renewable energy source that emits no CO2-can make a major contribution to reducing CO2 in the supply chain.

PNG state not honouring Pasca A agreement
The PNG Government and Twinza agreed final terms on the 6th July 2021 for the Pasca A Gas Agreement, which were reflected in an agreement that both parties committed to use. Subsequently, the Prime Minister, the Hon. James Marape announced on the 13th July 2021 that negotiations had concluded, with a scheduled initialling of the agreement on the 19th July and signing on the 29th July 2021.
After a month of silence on the State-side, the SNT Chairman returned an extensive
mark-up of the agreement late on the 6th August. This document bears no resemblance to the agreement of the 6th July 2021, containing over 2,400 changes in only 76 pages, and is essentially a new agreement which was provided “with endorsement of SNT, State Solicitor and Minister Kua”. The agreement would be unacceptable to any investor and introduces new fiscal terms
and inexplicable new conditions, several associated with Kumul Petroleum, that would make the Pasca A Project, or indeed any project in PNG, non-commercial and unfinanceable. Twinza can provide a copy of the State’s new agreement on our website to ensure full industry transparency.
For reasons unknown to Twinza, it would appear that the Prime Minister’s strong support for the Pasca A Project, expressed most recently at the media conference of
the 13th July 2021, is not being actioned
by the State Solicitor and is being openly undermined by elements within the SNT. This is both disappointing and surprising given that negotiations have concluded, and what should be a routine close-out process is being stewarded by the Minister for Petroleum, the Hon. Kerenga Kua:

AGIG supports Victoria’s
transition to a renewable
gas future
Australian Gas Networks (AGN) and Multinet Gas (MGN), part of the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG), welcome the opportunity to provide feedback to the Victorian Government Gas Substitution Roadmap Consultation Paper. AGIG
commends the Victorian Government for its proactive approach to considering ways for the gas sector to reach net zero emissions.
Developing a framework that provides similar support for the renewable gas sector as that provided to the renewable electricity sector is key to efficiently and effectively decarbonising energy supply, retaining customer choice and improving energy security and reliability for Victorians.
AGIG, as a leader in the energy infrastructure sector, including in the renewable hydrogen sector, has a clear low carbon strategy to decarbonise gas supply in Victoria by 2040 as a stretch target, and by no later than 2050 in line with the Victorian Government’s targets.
Building the scale and capability now
by blending renewable hydrogen into gas networks to supply homes and businesses will also position Victoria to benefit from a substantial new export opportunity. We are talking exporting our sunshine from our rooftop solar systems to the world through hydrogen. This means thousands of new jobs in Victoria in this emerging carbon-free industry, including in regional areas.”
AGIG is already delivering a 5% renewable hydrogen blend to some of its South Australian customers and has big plans for Victoria. Recently, ARENA provided its support for AGN to deliver Hydrogen Park Murray Valley located in Wodonga, which will provide a 10 per cent renewable hydrogen blend to over 40,000 homes and businesses in the region.

Green hydrogen boost for NSW transport industry
Buses, trucks and cars powered by green hydrogen could soon be a reality in New South Wales thanks to a new agreement between energy infrastructure company Jemena and gas supply company Coregas.
Under the new agreement Jemena will produce and supply green hydrogen from its Western Sydney plant for use by transport and industrial customers from early 2022. This is the first time the New South Wales transport industry will have access to green hydrogen.
The green hydrogen will be produced at Jemena’s $15 million Western Sydney Green Gas Project. Co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA),
the Power-to-Gas project is converting renewable electricity to hydrogen gas which can be blended and stored in Jemena’s gas distribution network to supply New South Wales homes and businesses.
