Russia real FDI - counting out money invested by foreign companies already working in Russia -- remains near zero thanks to the poor business environment and significant political risks.
However, those companies already in Russia are happy and reinvesting most of their earnings into their Russian operations. For example, German companies invested a record €3bn into Russia in 2018, even though the number of German companies registered in Russia has fallen to 4,500 from a peak of 6.000 in the boom years.
