UC Rusal repaid the Sberbank loan for Rb27bn (c$369mn). The company reported. The loan from Sberbank was secured against shares of Norilsk Nickel in 2010. It consists of two tranches: in dollars and rubles, with current outstanding amounts of $2.1bn and Rb79.5bn respectively, following repayment of Rb27bn ahead of schedule. The final repayment date of the loan is December 2027.
EN+ presents a pathway to net zero emissions.
The company sees its carbon footprint at 60.9mn tCO2e in 2020, which includes 23.16mn tCO2e from the energy segment and 38.2mn tCO2e from the metals segment. The target for 2050 is 15.6mn tCO2e from the energy segment and 9.7mn tCO2e from the metals segment. Moreover, the company is targeting compensation measures for 25.5mn tCO2e to decrease its carbon footprint to zeroy 2050.
En+ is focusing on deploying low-carbon technologies throughout the supply chain. For example, the company plans to reduce the GHG emissions coming from its energy segmenty modernizing equipment, reducing grid losses and switching from coal to natural gas at its TPP in Russia’s Irkutsk Region. The company is also considering building a new HPP for theAM-Transsib railway (Telmamskaya HPP, 450MW, capex of $1.1-1.2bn) as well as future hydrogen projects (Motyginskaya HPP, 1GW, capex of $1.3bn). En+ Group also plans to build the Nizhneboguchany HPP (660MW)y 2030.
The company's metals segment is focusing on innovations along its entire production chain, includinguilding new facilities and converting most Soderberg cells to pre-baked anodes, as well as conversions to inert anode technology. Alumina refineries that currently use heavy fuel oil or coal are expected to switch to natural gas or LNG no later than 2030, significantly reducing GHG emissions.
For compensation and neutralization purposes, En+ is considering using carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology to remove and sequester GHG emissions. En+ has a strategy to use nature-based solutions (forestry) to keep GHG out of the atmosphere.
