6.1.1 Earnings
The combined net profit of Turkish banks declined by 45% y/y to TRY4.34bn (around €497mn) in January, according to data from the country’s banking regulator BDDK.
Total assets of the banking industry rose 33% y/y but fell 1% compared with the end of 2020 to stand at TRY6 trillion, while deposits collected by lenders rose nearly 32% to TRY3.4 trillion.
Loan volumes climbed by 32% on an annual basis to reach TRY3.6 trillion in the first month of 2021.
There are 51 lenders including deposit banks, participation banks and development and investment banks in Turkey.
