Gran Tierra reports oil find
at Colombia’s Acordionero field
CALGARY-BASED Gran Tierra Energy said last week that it had found crude oil in a well drilled at the Acordionero eld in Colombia.
In a statement on its second-quarter results, Gran Tierra said it had encountered 23.5 metres of oil pay in an over-pressured reservoir within the Acordionero-48 (AC-48) well. During pro- duction testing in the rst seven days of August, the well yielded an average of 509 barrels per day (bpd) of oil measuring 24 degrees API, the company said. It noted that the crude had owed from Paleocene/Eocene reservoirs in the Lisama-E stratum.
Gran Tierra also said that production levels had trended upwards during the test period. During the last 24 hours of testing, it explained, AC-48 had yielded 751 bpd of oil.
The company further stated that it had increased the volume of water injected into development wells at Acordionero to around 28,500 bpd between May 1 and July 31, follow- ing the completion of an expansion project at the eld’s central processing and water-injec- tion facilities. It said it had successfully tested the capacity of the water-injection system at 40,000 bpd and intended to bring water injec- tion up to that level during the month of August.
As a result, it added, the eld will see out- put levels rise. “[With] the planned increase in water injection, Gran Tierra forecasts a posi- tive impact on reservoir pressure, supporting increased oil production rates from current and future oil producers and ultimate oil recovery e ciency from all of the reservoirs,” it explained.
The company went on to say that it had completed the installation of new gas-fired turbine units at Acordionero. Together with
the expansion of the central processing and water-injection facilities, the turbines will boost the eld’s production capacity to 30,000 bpd, it reported.
Gary Guidry, the president and CEO of Gran Tierra, said that developments at the Acordionero eld were likely to have a posi- tive impact on the company’s reserve portfolio this year. “We are excited about recent results from the AC-48 well, which opens up a new Lisama-E light oil development using the same Acordionero infrastructure that we have just expanded,” he was quoted as saying in the press release. “With this recent well result, along with the water ood expansion and performance at the Acordionero and Cohembi elds, we expect positive proven and probable reserve additions at year-end.”

VENEZUELA
PdVSA-CNPC joint venture launches expansion project
SINOVENSA, a joint venture between Ven- ezuela’s national oil company (NOC) PdVSA and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), is taking steps to increase output levels signi cantly.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reported on August 8 that Sinovensa had begun work on an expansion project that is designed to bring its production capacity up to 165,000
barrels per day.
This represents a 50% increase, since the
joint venture is currently turning out 110,000 bpd of blended crude oil.
Maduro did not say how quickly Sinovensa expected to reach the target of 165,000 bpd. He did remark, though, that his government appre- ciated the willingness of CNPC and Beijing to broaden ties with PdVSA.
