Turkey’s installed electricity generation capacity reached 95.9 GW at end- November from 91.3 GWh at end-2019.
Turkey is expected to add another 1,500MW to its solar power capacity in 2021 after only 672MW in 2020 due to pandemic.
Authorities will receive bids for 1,000 MW of mini Renewable Energy Resources Zone (YEKA) tenders between March 8 and March 12.
Turkey’s electricity consumption rose by 0.14% in 2020 from 2019 to stand at 291bn KWh, as economic activity slowed mostly due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Electricity generation stood at around 292bn kWh last year, rising slightly from the previous year’s 291bn kWh.
Some $7bn was spent in Turkey in 2020 to add 4,800 MW to the country’s power capacity. Hydropower plants accounted for 52% of the additional volume.
“The Energy Ministry’s strategic plans for the 2019-2023 period foresee Turkey creating 2,100 MW of additional capacity this year, which will require some $2.5bn in investments,” said Elif Dusmez Tez from Deloitte Turkey.
Turkey has 5,610MW annual production capacity in manufacturing photovoltaic (PV) panels.
