9.1.5 Retail sector news
According to the data collected by Evotor IT-company for the week March 30 to April 5 the revenues of shops fell by between 10% and 95% depending on the format and type of store in Moscow.
Some shops have closed completely, which things like supermarkets are open and providing basic goods to the local population that will be on lockdown until at least April 30.
Evotor released the results of a survey on the change in revenue where all the percentage are compared with the week earlier between March 2 and March 8, before both the oil price collapse or the coronavirus (COVID-19) measures were introduced.
The key details in the various segments are as follows.
· Convenience formats saw a 30% decline in turnover, with 27% of total locations closed.
· Non-chain pharmacies saw revenues fall 32%, with 27% of outlets shut down due to quarantine.
· Tobacco shops lost a third of their sales, with 20% of sites being temporarily closed.
· The number of off-licences is down 18%, while the segment's revenues have fallen 16%.
