EBRD provides €100 million to Budapest Airport operator
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is taking part in the financial restructuring of Budapest Airport, the operator of the country’s sole international airport, the bank said on July 21. It will provide €100mn as part of a €1.3bn package.
Budapest Airport is in the midst of its largest investment programme on record. The BUD2020 project, a HUF50bn (€140.8mn) develop- ment, includes the construction of a new pier at terminal 2B of Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport and the construction
of a new airport hotel that will be completed next year.
Passenger traffic in Budapest rose to 11.5mn last year, breaking records for the second straight year. The investment aims to increase the number of people travelling through the airport to 15-18mn annually.
The Polish and Danish gas grid operators announced on July 26 that interest in the planned gas pipeline linking the countries to Norway is sufficient to launch a second and final open season phase.
The first phase of testing for capacity demand lasted until July
25 and allowed Gaz-System and its Danish peer Energinet to gauge preliminary interest. In mid-June, the transmission system operators (TSOs) said that forward demand for using Baltic Pipe must total at least 7.5bn cubic metres (cm) per year in order for construction to kick off.
The operators did not disclose the actual level of interest indicated by the first phase. They said, however, that it was sufficient to begin tech- nical and environmental analyses preceding construction, provided the final investment decision is made, which is planned for 2018.
The value of planned and current joint projects between Serbia and China in the infrastructure sector exceeds €5bn, Serbia’s Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic an- nounced on July 21.
Serbia and China have already carried out several huge infrastructure projects including the Mihajlo Pupin Bridge, which opened in 2014 and is the first Chinese bridge in Europe. Beijing is keen to attract more investment from China and become a hub for Chinese investment in Southeast Europe.
