Russia’s Facebook, Odnoklassniki, launches marketplace in Kazakhstan
Electronics sector helps rebound in Hungarian industrial growth for October
Russia’s Tretyakov Gallery to use blockchain to raise funds to digitise its famous art collection
Odnoklassniki (OK), a major Russian language social network owned by Mail.Ru Group and sometimes called “Russia’s Facebook,” has launched a marketplace in Kazakhstan in a bid to challenge Chinese and US global e-commerce giants, reports East-West Digital News (EWDN).
The OK marketplace intends to make available no less than 30mn items, including fashion items, electronics goods, home appliances, cosmetics, car spare parts and other types of goods.
“This launch and the integration with [the national postal operator] KazPost are a landmark stage for the development of our social network,” stated OK general manager Anton Fedchin at a press conference in Astana.
Hungarian industrial output in October increased 5.9% y/y, the sta- tistics office KSH said in its second reading on December 12. The calendar-adjusted data picked up from 2.2% in September, the low- est figure in a year, to 3.3%. The monthly figure showed a 2% growth.
The expansion of the electronics industry was particularly signifi- cant in October, the KSH said in the preliminary report. The com- puter, electronics and optical equipment segment output increased by 11.7%, the detailed figures show. Growth in the manufacture of transport equipment, one of the key drivers of the industry, rose 3.1% y/y after three months of declines.
The Tretyakov Gallery, a leading Moscow museum that exhibits more than 190,000 works by modern and contemporary Russian artists, has decided to use blockchain to attract private capital for the digitisation of its collection, reports East-West Digital News (EWDN).
The gallery is developing a blockchain-powered app, ‘My Tretyakov’, which will allow individuals and companies to donate money to the museum. In return, the donors will become patrons of artworks and will be able to create their own online collections. Every time the artwork is shown online, My Tretyakov will show the name of the patron.
The use of the blockchain is meant to guarantee transparency and accountability with the donations. The app will implement solutions from Austrian blockchain company Ruddle & Code.
