The well will be drilled at production licence 644. OMV Norge is the operator of the licence with a 30% stake and its partners are Equinor with a 40%, DNO with a 20%, and Spirit Energy with 10%.
The area in this licence consists of parts of blocks 6506/8, 6506/10 and 6506/11. The well will be drilled about 4 km west of the Morvin field.
Production licence 644 was awarded on 3 February 2012 during the 2011 APA round and this is the second exploration well to be drilled in the licence.
The Island Innovator is a semi- submersible drilling rig of a Global Maritime GM4000 type, delivered by
the COSCO Shipyard in China in 2012.

Worley wins frameworks with BP
Oil major BP and Worley have entered into two global framework agreements, one for conceptual engineering and the other for early engineering and front‐end engineering design (FEED) services.
Both agreements are for a term of two years to provide services to BP’s global
offshore developments, Worley said in an update on May 20.
Under the conceptual engineering agreement, Worley will provide concept selection and development services including appraisals, feasibility studies and technical definition studies.
These services enable BP to assess the viability of projects.
Under the early engineering and FEED agreement, Worley’s services will include engineering design, further technical definition, project execution planning and development of project performance targets.
The services will be executed by Worley’s London and Houston offices with support from global businesses, including Advisian and Worley’s global integrated delivery offices.
Worley has also recently been awarded a contract with BP for engineering, procurement, and construction services as part of a gas lift project in the Caspian Sea.
Petrofac starts decomm job in UK
Petrofac’s Engineering & Production Services business (EPS) has launched work under tis previously awarded well decommissioning contract for the Rubie
and Renee fields located off the UK. Awilco Drilling last March signed a
contract with Petrofac for the provision of WilPhoenix rig in support of a three-well plug and abandonment programme on Rubie and Renee fields.
The program was scheduled to start in early May. But the two companies involved decided to delay the start until May 25 2020 and put Awilco’s rig on standby in the meantime.
In an update on May 27, Petrofac said that, over the next three months, it would provide well operator, well engineering, and project management services to decommission four wells within the Rubie and Renee fields, 200 km northeast of Aberdeen.
Three of these wells will now be decommissioned on a lump-sum turnkey basis, Petrofac said.
Petrofac is responsible for detailed planning, direct procurement and management of all subcontracted services, including the provision of a semi- submersible rig, in delivering this well decommissioning campaign.
