Iran makes progress with South Pars Phase 13

THE National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) last week loaded equipment for installation at Phase 13 of the South Pars gas eld.
In a news release, NIOC quoted its director for SP13, Payam Motamed, as saying that Iran Offshore Engineering and Construction Co. (IOEC) had loaded the tripod for are stack A.
Iranian media outlet the Financial Tribune published a translation of Motamed’s comments: “ e 450-tonne tripod is 68 metres in height and was li ed with the help of a oating crane HL-5000 and is being moved to its location with Mahdis barge.”
He added that the tripod would be installed adjacent to the A and C platforms at SP13 within the next two weeks, weather-dependent.
e announcement follows the installation of the tripod torch for aring in 2018.
In April, platforms B and D at SP13 were made ready for operation ahead of a full-phase production target of 20.8bn cubic metres per year of gas.
Motamed said that month that the platforms would allow production of 10.2 bcm per year
of gas and 75,000 bpd of condensate and other products at launch. It was also reported that 38 wells had been drilled in the SP13 block.
Middle East Oil & Gas (MEOG) reported at the time that delivery of gas to the phase’s onshore refinery was pending the availabil- ity of an o shore pipeline to transmit gas. e downstream unit will produce sweet gas, ethane, propane, butane, gas condensate and sulphur products.
To the south-east, progress at SP11 contin- ues to be on hold while Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh seeks to determine China National Petroleum Corp.’s (CNPC) intentions regarding the asset.
In mid-July, he said that a request from CNPC to suspend operations on the project had been rejected. CNPC currently owns an 80.1% stake in the development, with National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) subsidiary Petropars holding the remainder.
Meanwhile, the same week, platform B was installed at SP14, adding 14.2mn cubic metres per day of gas capacity.
