rapidly developing. However, he said the sector faces three challenges in the long run, namely rapid growth in energy demand, great pressure in carbon mitigation and ensuring power supply.
THERMAL GENERATION
Doosan opens Bintan 4 power plant in Vietnam
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on September 22 that the Bintan 4 Thermoelectric Power Plant completion ceremony took place in Binh Thuan, Vietnam on September 21.
The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Chairman Duong Quang Thanh, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Plant EPC BG head Park In-won, and other officials.
EVN launched the construction project for a more stable power supply to the southern region of Vietnam. The power plant has two 600MW facilities and is located in Binh Thuan, which is 230 km east of Ho
Chi Minh City. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction won the project on an EPC basis for approximately 1.6 trillion won in 2013 to be in charge of the entire process from design and equipment production to installation and test operation.
“Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has won a total of eight power station
construction projects in Vietnam, starting from the Mong Duong 2 Thermoelectric Power Plant construction project in 2010, and this means we can contribute to the power generation market of Vietnam with our advanced technology,” said Park In-won, vice president and head of the Plant EPC BG of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, adding, “We will work even more closely with Vietnam, whose power generation capacity is estimated to reach 136GW in 2030.”

Turkey sign 10-point declaration on renewable energy as part of CAREC forum
Senior energy ministers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, along with Pakistan and Turkey on September 20
signed a 10-point ministerial declaration on renewable energy. The declaration commits the countries to a shared 2030 Energy Strategy and to collaboration in attaining United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, which pledges “affordable and clean energy” by 2030.
The signing took place at the first Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Energy Ministers Dialogue held in Tashkent. The dialogue was organised
by the Uzbek government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the auspices of CAREC, a 11-country partnership,
which also includes development partners working to promote development through cooperation.
The declaration commits the nations to doubling electricity generation from solar and wind energy by 2023; implementing reforms to create an investor-friendly regulatory framework to encourage greater private
sector investment; creating CAREC-centered regional financing mechanisms; empowering women as they are under-represented in the CAREC region energy sector by signing up
to a campaign lobbying for equal pay, equal leadership and equal opportunities for women by 2030.
