NEWS IN BRIEF
AfrOil
On Monday, August 16, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the much- awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), 2021, with new preferential tax provisions for deep offshore projects that encourage exploratory activities in this area.
One thousand square km of newly repro- cessed 3-D seismic data over OPL 248 is now available in the PGS MultiClient Library. This completes our West Niger Delta 2020 survey.
The West Niger Delta 2020 Reprocessed 3D survey covers blocks OPL 248, 249, 250, 2011, and OML 140, and spans two main structural provinces directly linked to the gravity-driven movement of the Akata Shale Formation. Enhanced imaging has been achieved by broadband reprocessing of PGS 3-D data using modern workflows, resulting in a far clearer illu- mination of complex structures and potential exploration targets.

AGS secures 150,000
STRYDE nodes for seismic
projects in the Middle
East and Africa
Africa Geophysical Services (AGS), the Oman- based land seismic acquisition company, will use STRYDE’s Nimble and Compact systems to obtain better high-definition images for oil and gas exploration across several projects.
Pioneering seismic technology provider STRYDE has announced an agreement with Africa Geophysical Services, a land seismic data acquisition and processing company in Oman, to supply 154,000 of its nodes for projects in Oman and Africa.
The deal is the largest for STRYDE in the Middle East and demonstrates the increasing preference for nodal systems no matter the envi- ronmental conditions or size of survey.
Africa Geophysical Services, which has a presence in Oman, India, Tanzania, Egypt, Dubai, Uganda, Turkey and the United King- dom, will use STRYDE’s nodes, expertise and training services to obtain data for oil and gas exploration projects in Oman and Africa.
Mike Popham, CEO of STRYDE, said: “This is a really exciting agreement for STRYDE as we continue along the path of rapid growth and enter new territories – and we’re delighted to be working in collaboration with AGS to help deliver high inventory, cost-effective and super high-definition seismic acquisition for its clients in the Middle East and Africa. The oil and gas
industry is starting to recognise that high-den- sity seismic imaging is the only option to fully unlock the true value of a reservoir. Our highly reliable nodes, which can be quickly deployed in their tens of thousands, with minimal impact on the environment, offers exactly this: a much bet- terpictureforfarbetterreturnsonreservoirs.”
Salim Ajib Alhajri, Chairman, Africa Geo- physical Services, said: “This agreement repre- sents a significant moment for both AGS and our customers. Working with the latest acquisition technology, we realise our crews can be more efficient, safer and deliver better quality data to our customers, allowing them to radically improve their geological understanding.”
He followed on saying: “And beyond these initial projects for which we intend to use STRYDE’s nodes, we will offer the same high end acquisition capabilities to our clients who need to obtain high-definition seismic imaging in even more challenging terrains, such as urban areas, forests or in mountain ranges utilizing pre- dominantly local Omani content. We are really looking forward to getting started and deliver- ing the very best results for our clients in Oman, Africa and around the world.”

MISTDO designed to
safeguard downstream
operations, DPR says
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says the Minimum Industry Safety Training for Downstream operations (MISTDO) is a com- pulsory programme introduced to safeguard operations in the downstream sector of the Nige- rian oil and gas industry. Paul Osu, Head, Public Affairs, DPR, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
Osu said the MISTDO programme cov- ers Depots, Gasoline Stations, Petroleum Product Pipelines, LPG plants and Petroleum Trucks. According to him, the programme was launched following extensive collaborations
with relevant stakeholders including the Inde- pendent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
Osu said it was a direct response to upsurge in downstream sector accidents and opera- tional mishaps leading to high casualty and fatality rates averaging 54 fatalities yearly within a five-year period. He said: “The objectives of MISTDO amongst others, include to enforce and standardise basic training for downstream workers and to provide industry reference for prospective trainees. The programme requires robust accreditation of training centres for exist- ing workers and new entrants into the down- stream sector. Successful trainees are issued a certificate valid for two years at a negotiated cost between the trainees and the certified training centres. Please note that DPR does not charge the traineesfortheMISTDOprogramme.”
Osu noted that to further ensure transpar- ency of operations between the training cen- tres and trainees, DPR made it mandatory for trainers to publish their cost of providing train- ing on the MISTDO portal managed by DPR. “The DPR wishes to restate that as the regulatory agency, we will continue to provide robust over- sight for safety of operations in the Nigerian oil and gas industry in line with global best practices to ensure business sustainability,” he added. A first for Egypt as Fugro
revolutionises subsea
installation for GUPCO
Fugro has revolutionised a subsea installation programme for Gulf of Suez Petroleum Com- pany (GUPCO) with its innovative QuickVi- sion® technology. Used for the first time in Egypt, the contactless positioning solution replaced the conventional survey sensors typically attached to subsea structures during installation.
