upwards from the previous 7% growth baseline scenario.
The outlook depends on the economic conditions in the second half of 2017, such as oil prices, as well as consumer and business confidence that still remain low despite the positive trends.
Production seen shifting to Russia
Notably, PricewaterhouseCoopers see car and LCV sales in Russia in 2017 rising by 7-11%, in line with previous reports that the share of car imports in Russia is record-low and is set to decline further. Renault also runs a car plant in Russia, at which it makes Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano models.
In these conditions other foreign carmakers rush to develop assembly in Russia, with BMW reportedly intending to build a full-cycle car plant in Russia's Kaliningrad exclave
in a bid to benefit from government privileges available in the region.
The capacity of the future plant was said to likely to correspond with the automaker's total sales in Russia. BMW's investment in the project could be several hundred millions of euros.
PwC also expects foreign cars assembled in Russia to maintain the leading positions on the market. Sales of cars are seen expanding to 1.67mn in 2018 and 1.88mn in 2021.
