Automobile gasoline prices increased by 11% over the last month, hitting their highest level in recent memory, reports Enkorr.ua. The average prices has crossed the psychological barrier of UAH17 per liter. Behind the increase are: delays in shipments by Rosneft, a 32% cut in shipments by Lukoil and sanctions on products from Belarus refineries.
4.2.1 PPI dynamics
The rapid rise of consumer price inflation (CPI) has been the major macroeconomic headache for the authorities this year after the rate broke above 10% again. However, the problem with producer price index of inflation (PPI) is far worse.
After falling into negative numbers in 2019 the rate of producers inflation started to take off last autumn to start this year at 17.6%. since then it jumped to around 25% for the next three months but it has almost doubled again in just the last two months to hit 42% in July.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) rate hikes appear to have had little impact on inflation which is largely due to structural, not monetary, problems such as soaring food prices and broken supply chains.
