Triangle Energy brings fifth Cliff Head well back online
PROJECTS & COMPANIES
AUSTRALIAN junior Triangle Energy has resumed production at the CH-13 well back in the Cliff Head oilfield offshore Western Austral- ian after technical issues took it out of commis- sion nine months ago.
CH-13 re-entered production on Decem- ber 13 after the company installed a replace- ment electric submersible pump (ESP), Triangle Energy said on December 16. It added that tests had been conducted over the next two days and that the field’s steady state output was 970 barrels per day, with CH-13 accounting for 150 bpd of that.
The ESP will be brought up to full speed over the next two weeks and the field’s total produc- tion will be optimised over the coming month, the company said.
The developer announced in March that a technical issue with the downhole ESP had caused CH-13 to stop producing. While the well was offline Triangle Energy optimised perfor- mance from the field’s other four wells to deliver 779 bpd. Now that CH-13 is online, output is anticipated to climb to more than 1,000 bpd.
Triangle Energy said the resumption of pro- duction at the well had validated its decision to
adopt an alternative system for workover oper- ations, ESP design and replacement. The com- pany said the change in methodology would deliver a safer and more reliable operation under a revised safety case, increase well uptime and significantly reduce the cost of future Cliff Head well workovers.
Triangle Energy operates Cliff Head with a 78.75% interest, while Royal Energy owns the remaining 21.25%. The field, which is located in the Perth Basin about 270km north of Perth and 12km off the coast of Dongara, lies in 15-20 metres of water. The field lies in production licence WA-31-L, which covers 72 square km.
The developer has said in the past that static modelling has revealed near field targets with up to 29mn barrels of unrisked, best estimate prospective oil initially-in-place (OIIP). This, the company said, represented 10.2mn barrels of prospective resource in near field exploration targets within the Cliff Head licence area.
The oilfield’s facilities are the only offshore and operating onshore infrastructure in the Perth Basin, which the company has said will be important for any surrounding developments.
