banning crude oil, gasoline and other petrol products, coal exports. The restriction measures imposed by a government resolution will take effect on June 1. The restrictions mean that the country's exporters will have to apply for special permission from the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. Dmytro Khoroshun at Kyiv-based brokerage Concorde Capital believes that the Ukrainian consumers of metallurgical coal, including the largest steelmaker Metinvest, will not experience severe material shortages despite the ongoing Russian restrictions.
Ukraine essentially hit its goal of exporting 50mn tons of grain in this marketing year , exporting 49.7mn tons as of June 30, the end of the sales year, reports the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. Powered by a record-breaking 70mn ton crop, Ukraine’s grain exports grew by 26%, surpassing those of Russia. Ukraine’s corn exports shot up by 62%, hitting 29.8mn tons. Wheat fell by 9%, to 15.6mn tons. Barley fell by 18.6%, to 3.6mn tons.
In January-May 2019, exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to China amounted to $795mn , according to Acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva.
Ukraine has emerged as one of the top three countries exporting agricultural products to the European Union . Between May 2018 and April 2019 Ukraine accounted for 6.3% of the EU’s agriculture imports, overtaking China. Ukraine now lies behind only the US and Brazil. Agriculture exports from Ukraine grew by 14.2% (€800mn) during the 12 months to April 2019, reaching close to €6.3bn.
Ukraine’s food exports increased by 21.4% during the first five months of this year , hitting $9bn, Olga Trofimtseva, acting agriculture minister, writes on Facebook. Food is Ukraine’s top export, accounting for 43% of sales, she writes. Top buyers were: China -- $795mn; India - $741mn; Egypt -- $737mn dollars; Turkey -- $684mn; and the Netherlands -- $641mn.
Powered by Ukraine’s food sales, Dubai’s non-oil trade with Ukraine nearly doubled since 2016, hitting $571mn last year, a Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative told an export forum in Kyiv this week, reports WAM, the Emirates News Agency. He invited Ukrainian companies to participate in Arab Health, Gulfood and Gitex Technology Week, three of the Middle East’s largest trade fairs, all held in Dubai.
Fruit exports were up 16% by value during the first half of this year y/y, pacing last year’s 17% growth, reports Ukraine’s Agrarian Economic Institute. Apples and pears were up 75% to 42,000 tons. Walnuts were up 74% to 33,000 tons. Frozen fruits were up 28% to 18,000 tons. Of the $116mn in sales, the biggest buyers were: Turkey -- $18mn; France -- $11mn; Poland -- $10mn; Belarus -- $9mn; Iraq -- $7mn; Italy and Greece -- $5mn; and Germany $4mn. The EU buys about half of Ukraine’s fruit and berry exports.
The fruit and berry harvest in Ukraine this season could fall by 25%
compared with the previous one due to unfavorable weather conditions, Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Agrarian Export Dmytro Kroshka has said.
