● Moreover, according to Shulginov, Russia needs at least 5GW of hydro accumulating plants after 2035 and through 2050, with the first Pricing Zone being a potential location. MinEnergo plans to extend the current energy programme from 2035 to 2060 and this should be part of it, he said. RusHydro noted the possibility of constructing anti-flood HPPs and En+ has plans for more large HPP projects.
● In addition, Shulginov mentioned that the ministry was offering to return to 4-year KOM and 5-year DPM2 mechanisms for better forecasting (as had previously been noted by Ministry of Energy representatives).
● Deputy Minister of Energy Evgeny Grabchak shared the view that MinEnergo continued to oppose the construction of generation for BAM-3 and believed the third stage could be carried out using locomotives rather than additional electric capacity.
● President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia was actively working on decarbonisation, reducing GHG emissions and developing renewable energy. Also, as part of the EEU, Russia is offering to start using standards in carbon accounting, to undertake joint climate projects and to develop its own technologies based on low-carbon energy sources.
By 2030, Russia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) output can reach 120mn tonnes per year, but monetization of the reserves should go faster, LNG producer Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said at a forum on Monday. “It is realistic for Russia to consider (output of) 120mn tonnes by 2030. We have to do it,” the corporate said. Today, Russia’s LNG production stands at just over 30mn tonnes a year provided by the Yamal LNG and Sakhalin-2 facilities. The world’s top-3 LNG producers are the US, Qatar and Australia with about 77mn tonnes of LNG per year each. Russia has the reserves needed to catch up with the leaders, but they should be monetized quickly, Mikhelson said.
Russian gas giant Novatek expects liquefied natural gas (LNG) output of the Yamal LNG plant to amount to 19 million tonnes in 2021, Leonid Mikhelson, head of Novatek, said at a forum on Monday. “Last year we produced 18.8 million tonnes while this year it will be more than 19 million tonnes,” Mikhelson said. Novatek launched the fourth production line at the Yamal plant, featuring Novatek’s know-how LNG liquefaction technology, the Arctic Cascade, earlier in 2021. This year the fourth line will secure output of 200,000 tonnes of LNG, about 20% of its total capacity, Mikhelson said. With the launch of the 4th production line, the facility will be able to produce up to 20 million tonnes of LNG annually, he said.
Russia retained its position of the world’s second largest oil producer after the US in August, when its output grew by 1.1% on the month to 9.944mn barrels per day, the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI) said in a report on Monday. The US produced 11.181mn barrels per day, a fall by 1.1%. The output of Saudi Arabia, which was number three, rose by 0.9% to
