new Trump tariffs. It won’t work my friends. You only whet his appetite. Remember your high school bully?”
Explaining the latest position, Borrell told reporters in Tehran: “We are in agreement not to go directly to a strict time limit which would oblige [us] to go to the Security Council.”
He added: “The willingness is not to start a process that goes to the end of JCPOA, but to keep it alive.”
2.2 Canada, Ukraine appeal to Iran to hand over aircraft disaster black boxes for quick decryption
Iran should immediately transfer the black boxes of the Ukrainian passenger plane it shot down two weeks ago to a country that has the necessary technologies for “quick decryption” of their contents, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in Winnipeg on January 21.
At the same time, Ukraine appealed to Iran to send the black boxes to Kyiv.
Iran—which has just this week confirmed two short-range missiles were mistakenly fired at Kyiv-bound Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 resulting in the death of all 176 people on board when the aircraft burst into a fireball and plunged to the ground in a Tehran suburb—has on the other hand appealed to countries with the required technology to provide assistance so it can quickly examine the black box contents itself.
“We want the black boxes to be sent [from Iran] immediately,” Trudeau said. “We urge Iran to send them to a place where they can be quickly decrypted.” He added that the arrival of relevant specialists in Iran would not help in deciphering the black box contents since there is no necessary equipment in place.
Trudeau also said that Iran’s non-recognition of the dual citizenship of victims of the crash was a challenge for Ottawa, "as it could be an obstacle to assisting the families of the victims".
He stressed that Iran, in this matter, should respect the desire of the families of the victims.
Speaking on the sidelines of an official visit to Singapore on January 13, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko told Reuters that the five nations whose citizens were killed when the airliner was shot down would discuss possible legal action against Iran, as well as the compensation and the investigation into the incident.
The IRGC apologised to the nation and accepted full responsibility. Senior Guards commander Amirali Hajizadeh said he informed Iran’s authorities on January 8 about the unintentional strike. That raised questions about why officials had publicly denied it for so long. The gunner, according to the IRGC, was unable to consult with senior officers on whether to fire at the plane because of an electronic communication breakdown.
