On October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Padua Franciscan introduced its frst annual Day of Giving, Bruins Big Give. Everyone in the Padua community came together on this day, beginning with Mass in the gymnasium followed by lots of fun competition among the students as they deposited their giving envelopes into their desig-nated class buckets. Amidst the laughter and the friendly competition to be the class with the highest participation, the message was clear that we are asked to give from our hearts, not because we receive anything in return, but because we are helping our fellow students and our beloved Padua. Alumni and parents joined in the efort by attending the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi Mass, along with our celebrant Bishop Nelson Perez, and dropping of their gifs in person throughout the day. Many parents were greeted by Padua Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and Color Guard in the parking lot. Te Marching Band added to the festive atmosphere in the lobby. Tis online-based fundraiser played a pivotal role in launching the 2017-2018 Franciscan Fund, which was created to help keep tuition more afordable for our families and to provide the best possible education for every student. Te full cost to educate a student at Padua is $12,965 each year; however, tuition totals $11,225. Gifs to the Franciscan Fund make up that $1,800 diference for each student.Te goal of Bruins Big Give was to increase donor participation, as well as to bring our Padua family together. Participation was increased among all the constituencies, alumni, parents, friends, and faculty/staf. 1,547 donors participated in the Bruins Big Give and more than $108,396 was raised!
