President’s Message
When I was a kid, there was Cold War talk of a “sleeping giant” and how not one country wanted to disturb the power of that hibernating bear. e fear of having to confront such powerful energy kept countries at a respectful distance. But I’m happy to say that the Hibernating Bruin is awake and roaring like never before! In 2014, months before I became Padua’s President, plans were initiated to begin a Capital Campaign that would invite the participation of many who had walked the corridors of Padua over the years. A handful of
alumni, parents, and grandparents were asked for their input, and the proposed campaign received an enthusiastic response. ose early group-inquiries engendered support that has steadily increased. And the growth continues!
I’m very happy to announce that our Capital Campaign has raised $4 million and is nearing our goal of $4.5 million. Because of this incredible generosity on the part of dedicated Bruins, we have made some great inroads improving our physical infrastructure. One very visible, ongoing project is the expansion of our main entrance to provide a cleaner environment, space for student activity and, most importantly, greater safety for our students and school personnel. e Bruin spirit is ultimately about providing a holistic education for close to 800 students each year who are preparing themselves to enter our challenging world. With more than 11,000 graduates our power to improve Padua is immense, and when we unite our e orts, there is no limit to what we can accomplish! Because of our uni ed e ort, Padua was honored to welcome more than 200 new freshmen and 33 international students in August 2017!
I am passionate about our future and what we can accomplish together. And as we join one another in celebrating our accomplishments, we create community. Franciscan living teaches us that the more we share in each other’s lives, the more connected we become.
e summer is almost here...enjoy it and grow the Bruin community! Be instruments of peace! e time for hibernating is over!
