 Player Kicks It
for a Cause
Football season took on a new meaning for the kicker at Padua Franciscan High School. With each kick, senior Dominic Buttazzoni ’18 raised money for childhood cancer research.
“For every point I scored during the game, a pledged amount of money was donated to the Kick-It Foundation, thanks to dozens of family members, friends, and people in the Padua community,” Buttazzoni said.
roughout the season, the 17-year-old scored 81 points and raised more than $5,200.
“Cancer a ects almost every family at some point, so it is impor- tant to nd a cure,” Buttazzoni said.
e money raised was presented to a representative from Kick-It a er CFO Mass on Friday, December 22, 2017.
Bruins Goalie Lands on Ohio State Hockey Team
Padua Hockey standout Lynsey Wallace ’17 made Ohio State University’s Women’s Hockey team in the fall. Playing for a Division I program has been a dream come true for Wallace, who has been dressing as a backup goaltender this season. Her unprecedented road to becoming a Buckeye was recently highlighted by Ohio Hockey Digest.
Her schedule has been hectic. She spends up to ve hours a day with her team – attending on-ice practice, goalie practice, weight- li ing, lm sessions, team meals and other events, in addition
to juggling her responsibilities as a student and an ROTC cadet. Balancing school and sports is nothing new for Wallace. She was a student in Padua’s rigorous four-year MedTrack program, which prepares students for careers in science and healthcare.
Wallace was the rst female in school history to make Padua’s Varsity Hockey team roster. During her junior year, she won the title of All-Great Lakes Hockey League goalie, and became the rst Bruin ever to win a GLHL award. Senior year, she earned All-League honors and the GLHL Sportsmanship Award.
e entire Padua community is so proud of Lynsey and all of her outstanding accomplishments as both a Bruin and a Buckeye.
