Athletic Training Student Aide Program
e Athletic Training Student Aide Program is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in athletic training and sports medicine.
Student trainers attend a week-long student aide camp put on by the Cleveland Clinic at Baldwin Wallace University. ey learn basic injury management, wound care, triage, taping techniques, emergency response and medical terminology.
During all three sports seasons, the student aides treat minor injuries, tape athletes and provide rst aid under the guidance and supervision of our certi ed athletic trainer. ey also prepare for practices and games, by getting equipment ready for the day’s events.
ey are considered members of the team and receive certi cates and varsity letters as they continue within the program. ey also receive a small tuition credit for their time and dedication to the athletic program.
“It is a lot of work, long hours, long days and long seasons, but they all seem to enjoy
it a lot. e students involved in the program usually come to me in the
spring of their senior years and tell me the best times of their high
school career were spent being a student trainer for the teams,”
said Padua’s Athletic Trainer Josh Chapin.
e program has been around at Padua for over 30 years. Padua was the rst school in the country to sign a sports health/athletic training contract with the Cleveland Clinic.
Students who are interested in becoming aides should contact Padua’s Athletic Trainer Josh Chapin at jchapin@paduafranciscan.com or 440.845.2444 x153.
“Being a student trainer for Padua’s football team really helped pave the way for my future. I would love to be a physical therapist and this program really helped me in making that decision.”

“Being a student trainer means doing whatever I can to make sure that Padua’s greatest athletes are able to play to the best of their abilities by xing any minor cuts or injuries that are brought forth along the journey. As a trainer, you develop a special bond that truly makes you feel as if you are a part of the team.”
