Glossary of Terms
Antibacterial - Anything that destroys bacteria or prevents them from growing or reproducing.
Bactericidal - A substance that is bactericidal kills bacteria.
Barrier cream - A cream applied to the skin to help protect the skin’s physical barrier. Often used in industrial applications to help protect the skin against exposure to cleaning compounds and solvents.
Beaded soap - Soap that contains tiny abrasive particles for deeper cleaning and exfoliation of hands.
Centrefeed - A roll of paper where the feeds from the centre of the roll.
C-fold - The hand towel has two edges folded over into a c shape. These are not interleaved and don’t open up automatically when dispensed.
Compactor Bin - A compactor bin is a machine used to reduce the volume of waste material by squashing it.
Couch roll - A wide paper roll used to cover surfaces such as medical beds to maintain hygiene and absorb liquids.
Detergent - A detergent is a product that removes dirt and dissolves grease. It is a surfactant that can help you remove dirt and grease from dirty dishes and preparation areas. Using detergent should be one of the first and more important steps in cleaning. It is crucial to bear in mind that detergent does not kill bacteria.
Disinfectant - Disinfectants are chemical products that reduce bacteria to a safe level. They can be used after a detergent to ensure that any remaining bacteria are destroyed.
Dust Flick - A fluffy duster mounted on a pole used to brush away dust and cobwebs from hard-to-reach surfaces.
EN 374 - a European standard for protective gloves that measures their resistance to penetration by various chemicals and microorganisms.
EN420 - This is a standard for protective gloves that ensures they are safe and comfortable for the wearer and don’t cause injury. It also standardizes gloves sizes across the industry.
EN455 - This standard regulates medical gloves for single use. To meet the standard, the gloves have to past tests for size and physical strength.
EN1500 - This is a European standard for assessing the effectiveness of hand sanitisers
by measuring the amount of viable bacteria on the hands before and after the use of the sanitiser.

EN14476 - The European standard for measuring the effectiveness of disinfectant solutions against “enveloped” viruses such as coronaviruses.
Eucalyptus - Toilet paper made from Eucalyptus pulp is softer and stronger due to the short fibre length of the pulp. It is also more environmentally sustainable.
FFP2 - These masks filter a minumum of 94% of airborne particles with an inward leakage of less than 8%. Regulated by European standard EN149.
FFP3 - These masks filter a minumum of 99% of airborne particles with an inward leakage of less than 2%. Regulated by European standard EN149.
FSC - An FSC certified product is one that comes from a Forest Stewardship Council certified source or from post-consumer waste. There are three types of FSC label: 100%, FSC Mix or FSC Recycled. Each product is traceable back to its source.
Germicidal - A substance that destroys harmful microorganisms. Also called microbicide.
