great outdoors!
Boating & Waterways
There are over 300,000 boats registered in North Carolina, and boating is undoubtedly one of the state’s most popular sports.
The boating and fishing public has free access to the state’s waters via access areas operated throughout North Carolina.
There are two boating access areas maintained by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission in the Greenville area:
Greenville (Port Terminal) - TAR RIVER
940 Port Terminal Rd, Greenville, NC
Directions: Beginning from the junction of NC 33 and US 264 in Greenville, travel east on NC 33 (10th St) for 1.1 miles. Turn left on Port Terminal Rd (SR 1533) and travel 0.4 miles to the area. The area will be on the left.
Falkland - TAR RIVER
3013 NC Hwy 222, Falkland, NC
Directions: From the junction of NC 43 and NC 222, east of Falkland, travel on NC 222 east 0.3 miles. Turn right to the area on the east side of the Tar River Bridge.

Giant, old oaks draped in Spanish moss welcomes you to this special world where broad, lazy Goose Creek joins the Pamlico River. A primitive camping area, picnic sites, swim beach, hiking, and paddling trails offer a variety of ways to savor the tranquil surroundings at Goose Creek State Park. Goose Creek is conveniently located between historic Bath and the original Washington.

Connecting Green Springs Park, Elm Street Park, and ECU’s College Hill, this 2.5 mile trail provides a scenic walkway and bike path along the water of the Green Mill Run for the enjoyment of walkers, runners, bicyclists, and nature enthusiasts. Additional phases are planned.
