Richard Petty took the checkered flag in the first race in Dover on July 6, 1969 and race fans have flocked to the Monster Mile ever since. The high-banked, concrete superspeedway is known as
the fastest one mile oval in
the world, and is consistently tough on tires and drivers. Each three-day race weekend attracts an estimated 250,000 fans to
the largest sporting event in
the Mid-Atlantic region. Not
only does Dover International Speedway offer NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing, but also NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck, and East Series action as well.
NASCAR weekend in Dover is more than just a race! Race fans have plenty to see and do at the track, highlighted by the track’s main attraction, the 46-foot-tall Monster Monument at Victory Plaza. The fiberglass structure of the track’s signature icon Miles the Monster holds a full size stock car in his right hand and features over 200 granite plaques dedicated to race winners at Dover. The area is adjacent to the FanZone that features interactive displays, live bands, and much more—free to fans on race weekend!
