While wealthy families had servants like nannies and maids to take care of the children, in most families the mummy did that.
Fetch me a bag of jelly mummies and a can of cola, my good man.
Yeah, good luck with that...
Of course, when we say "the mummy" we mean the mother, rather than the creepy bandage-wrapped thing. That would not be at all comforting when it shuffled upstairs at night to tuck you in to your reed mat and read you some bedtime hieroglyphs.
