                             Mary circled the garden-with-no-gate, hoping to find a way in. To her delight Mr Robin seemed to be following her. Every time she stopped, he flew down and started digging for worms, cocking his head, watching her with bright little eyes. It made Mary’s cheeks turn robin-red with happiness.
“Oh, do you like me, Mr Robin? No one has ever liked me before! Please do! I like you so much!”

Every day, Mary went out, because if she stayed indoors there was nothing to
do. The wind off the moor was blustery cold. She ran to keep warm, and she hated the wind for trying to blow her inside out. But somehow, the running and the wind stirred up her blood. It made her hungry, too. Suddenly, her morning porridge tasted very good.
