                             The three friends planned everything, but where they were going had to remain a secret. The gardeners were told to stay out of the gardens. A footman carried Colin downstairs to his wheeled chair, and the little emperor waved away the grown-ups. Then he leaned back and lifted his face to the sky, breathing in the sweet air.
They took a roundabout path, in and out of the shrubbery. Reaching the garden wall, a thrill went though them all.
“There is no door,” Colin insisted.
“That’s what I thought,” said Mary. “Quick now, Dickon!”
